More tournaments, more prizes and more more

Published on 04 January 2019 at 09:39:13

Greetings everyone and first of all a happy new year to everyone!

We have some exciting news to share with you.

Starting from next Monday (January 7th 2019) we'll be increasing the frequency of all of our tournaments! LGPE, Smash, and ARMS will all have 2 tournaments each day, with the intent of giving all timezones a chance to participate.

In addition to the increased frequency, we are also rolling out a new incentive for participants and winners of all of our tournaments. For every tournament, excluding our Friday Night Deluxe tournaments, the winner will be able to choose the format/ruleset of the next week's tournament for that specific game/timeslot. We'll contact you and get all the details within 24 hours, and have it posted to the site immediately! Also, if you don't feel like coming up with anything, that's ok! We'll create one in your place.

Now, choosing the rules for a tournament, that's cool and all, but it also begets the question "So what?" Well, it goes hand-in-hand with our next incentive: A monthly voucher prize tournament! Over the course of the month, each Friday Night Deluxe will maintain consistent rules for each game/timeslot, in order to give participants plenty of practice for the last FND of the month, which will be our prize tournaments!

Each game in each timeslot will have a 5USD (or comparable value) Nintendo eShop voucher up for grabs! We would love to give more, and hope to in the future as this project grows and gains momentum, but this is an amount we can comfortably and reliably supply each month.

Also, for ANY AND ALL tournaments you participate in, your participation will be tracked for that game in that timeslot. Each time you submit a result on the tournament website, it will add to your monthly count. Then, at the first of each month, we will take the counts for each game in each timeslot, i.e. EU Smash, US ARMS, and enter each players count into a generator, which will choose a max of 6 players to choose the format/ruleset for that new month's Friday Night Deluxe for that game in that timeslot.

Participation matters!

Using this system, even if you never win a single round of anything, you still have 1 count per tournament to be able to influence the prize tournament to be something that you believe you are stronger in! And, of course, you have to show up to play, as only the actual results submitted manually are tracked, not just registration. And as you win more and more rounds, that's more submissions to add to your count!

For this month, we will be making the first round of regular tournaments from January 7 - January 13, as well as the Friday Night Deluxe formats for January.

We're SUPER excited to see this all unfold! It's our hope that this gives all of our participants more incentive to play when they can, be more involved as they want, and create a fun and fresh atmosphere that feels rewarding and fair!

PLEASE leave any thoughts or questions in our feedback channel in our Discord, as we want to hear everyone's opinions!

A deeply heartfelt thank you to everyone who participates, helps others in the server, spreads the word about this great project, and generally wishes to see it prosper!

Good luck to everyone in this coming month, and good games!

❤️

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate now supported

Published on 10 December 2018 at 10:50:35

Hello Everyone!

Today we have really good news to share about the future of Switch Tournaments.

Support for the newly release Super Smash Bros. Ultimate just went live on this site. Yesterday, we tested the new system that generates a lobby password for you and it works like a charm. In addition to that we added a feature to highlight certain streams on the start page so you can always see when one of our tournaments is currently being stremed. For that we created a Twitch account here: https://www.twitch.tv/switchtournaments feel free to follow this account and get notified whenever we go live there.

There is much more awesome stuff coming in the future, including leaderboards of the best players, more tournament formats and much more.

Stay tuned!

Cheers

First tournaments finished, Random dominates them all!

Published on 26 November 2018 at 08:55:51

Hey there,

this weekend, the first 3 tournaments were held on https://switch-tournaments.com

It all started off with a tournament for our Australian trainers, where 4 people participated. Random has beaten KiLLyA_ in the first semfinals game while Nando beat Zaviar in a really close match. So Nando and Random faced of in the finals where Random could earn his first tournament victory.

After a few hours of sleep and some bugfixing (matchmaking codes weren't really working) the EU Tournament finally started. Due to a last minute emergency one of the players couldn't make it, so we started with a total of 5 participants. While KiLLyA_ was lucky getting 2 free wins to make it to the finals, Random dominated the other games and made it to the finals as well. As seen already in the AUS tournament it was clear that Random would be able to beat KiLLyA_ once again in the finals. And so he was winning the second tournament as well.

So, 7 hours later the long awaited US tournament started. We were really looking forward to see what's happening there because most people (6) signed up for the US tournament. Even though there were some people missing in Round 1 which caused some default wins for people it got close in the Semi finals where Random was able to defeat blastakickerBK in a really close match, whereas broseph23 got a free win due to the amount of people that started in the tournament. It came down to a close match in the finals between broseph23 and RandomRandom was also able to win this game for him which makes him the 3 times opening tournament champion.

It was very nice to see everyone participating and battling it out. Everyone was super fair and friendly and we had some great time on the discord discussing future tournament rules line ups and good combos.

I'm already looking forward to the next tournaments which will happen this thursday (to be scheduled).

There is also another tournament coming up this friday night (around 10 pm) where we will have our first price (Nintendo eShop card). If you are willing to sponsor such a price or something else feel free to contact me @KiLLyA_ on our discord server. Also feel free to invite as many people as you know to the upcoming tournaments, because it's always more fun to compete with more people.

Cheers and thanks for everything

And of course a big congrats to Random who won all of the 3 opening tournaments 🏆🏆🏆

New Design

Published on 20 November 2018 at 10:47:45

As you may already have seen, today we updated the design of our site a little.

The whole page is now making use of the infamous Nintendo Switch JoyCon colors which give it a more appealing look. Also, we sat down to create our own brand new logo (in GIMP).

Of course this is not the final final final logo that we are going to use but displays in what direction we roughly want to go with it :)

Also with today's update there were some small under the hood tweaks that make it impossible to register for tournaments that have already started.

We are looking forward to the upcoming weeks and hopefully we'll be able to post the first tournament here soon.

Alpha launched!

Published on 19 November 2018 at 19:16:29

Hello Everyone!

Today switch-tournaments.com goes live with an early preview of the system.

Switch Tournaments will be a place where you can find regular Nintendo Switch Tournaments to battle and compete with players all over the world.

You can already register your account today and we will keep you posted with the latest updates.

We are planning to have a launch tournament in 2 weeks from now and then multiple tournaments in the week after.

For now it's planned to support the new Pokemon Let's Go games and Smash Bros. Ultimate as soon as it comes out.

Here is a preview of all the things that still need to be done before launch:

  • Implement the welcome page
  • Add mechanics for contacting admins
  • Several UI tweaks
  • Proper Matchmaking
  • Player profiles
  • More stuff for Future updates

Thanks for being part of this ♥️

Also be aware that this is in an alpha state and there could be data wipes if something goes wrong on our end, even though it's not expected to happen at this point.
